Lighting & Safety Update

New Signage

August 2020

There are many new little children residing in Oakwood so more signs were installed with the new lower Speed Limit 10 MPH and Slow Down Children Playing.  Please drive carefully and be on the lookout for kids being kids.

Old Lighting System removed

Summer 2019

The "very" old lighting system was completely removed last summer by Byler Electric.  It had become too expensive to maintain and dangerous.

New Lights Installed and Serviced
by AEP

Summers 2019 and 2020

It was decided and voted upon to have AEP install and take over the maintenance and service of the entire street lighting system.  The cost is being amortized and added to residents' tax bills.  Residents on Doty Ave and Benham Beach Road opted out.

Decorative lights were considered but deemed too expensive and would have required a new expensive infrastructure.

The new lights are much better.  They are less offensive because they are designed to cast downward on the road, and are a warmer amber tone.  They will eventually be updated to LED by AEP at no additional charge once the new lamps' light quality is equal to or better.

Final Two Lights Installed

Fall 2020

The two remaining lights were installed in November.  One is across from the Freeman residence on the south side of the street coming down the hill.  The other one is on the north side of the intersection at Watson Road and Cedar Point Road.  They were to be installed in May but Covid-19 issues caused a delay.

Neighborhood Watch

Always

Oakwood is a Neighborhood Watch community.  Signs are posted but it really depends on all of us.  As the saying goes: "If you see something - say something".  We will email neighbors about any suspicious activity.  Please make sure your contact information is up to date.
